A LANDIS-II extension for incorporating land use and other disturbances

چکیده
Forest landscape models (FLMs) are widely used to examine the influence of disturbances on long-term and broad-scale forest ecosystem dynamics. However, FLMs are not well-suited to simulating some types of management or disturbance regimes, including land-use change. Consequently, there are situations in which a researcher may wish to estimate the timing and location of events externally, either from a different model, empirical observations, or some other source, and then incorporate them into an FLM. We present Land Use Plus (LUþ), an extension for the LANDIS-II FLM that allows users to integrate externally-developed, spatially and temporally explicit representations of land use or other disturbance into simulations. LUþ allows users to model the proximate effects of these events on forest composition and biomass, as well as subsequent dynamics, including tree establishment and the potential for future management. LUþ will significantly increase the breadth of research questions for which LANDIS-II may be appropriately used. © 2015 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Modeling the Relative Contributions of Land Use Change and Harvest to Forest Landscape Change in the Taihe County, China
Forests are under pressure from land use change due to anthropogenic activities. Land use change and harvest are the main disturbances of forest landscape changes. Few studies have focused on the relative contributions of different disturbances. In this study, we used the CA-Markov model, a land-use change model, coupled with a forest landscape model, LANDIS-II, to simulate dynamic change in Ta...
متن کاملAgricultural Extension Education Method for Water Use Optimization
ABSTRACT- Agricultural extension agents should provide dry land producers with appropriate education to make them more interested in learning about water use optimization. Therefore, it is recommended to accompany education with art. In this regard, a study, using the randomized experimental research design, was carried out among dry land grape producers in Herayjan village, Southwest Iran, usi...
متن کاملUrban Land-Use Allocation By A Cell-based Multi-Objective Optimization Algorithm
Allocating urban land-uses to land-units with regard to different criteria and constraints is considered as a spatial multi-objective problem. Generating various urban land-use layouts with respect to defined objectives for urban land-use allocation can support urban planners in confirming appropriate layouts. Hence, in this research, a multi-objective optimization algorithm based on grid is pr...

This study examined the effect of urbanization on agricultural production in Abia State. Specifically, it categorized the land tenancy status of the farmers, analyzed the effect of urbanization on agricultural productivity and identified the constraints to agricultural productivity. Multistage random sampling technique was used to select the respondents. Primary data collected using structured ...
متن کاملInvestigation of Gully Erosion by using the Analytical Hierarchy Process Model Case study: Roudbar, Gilan Province, Iran
Gully erosion is one of the geomophological phenomenon that causes numerous losses to farmland, rangeland, roads, and increased sediment rate. Recognition of the causes and modeling gully erosion has an important role in watershed management, which aids in preventing the destruction of lands in sustainable development. In this research, a gully erosion map was prepared with the use of airp...
